Mogadishu, (SONNA) — A two-day constitutional retreat has opened in Mogadishu with participation from the Speakers of both Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, the Independent Constitutional Review and Implementation Commission (ICRIC), and the Constitutional Oversight and Implementation Committee (COIC).
The retreat aims to prioritize the finalization of the remaining chapters of the Provisional Constitution, which will soon be submitted to MPs and Senators for debate.
ICRIC has completed its work on these chapters after extensive consultations with federal and Federal Member State stakeholders through mandated institutions, marking a crucial step toward a complete constitution.
The retreat also brings together Deputy Speakers and the chairpersons of both constitutional review committees, reinforcing the Federal Parliament’s commitment to accelerating the constitutional review process and fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
