NEW YORK, United Nations – The Republic of Türkiye has formally reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Addressing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday, the Turkish delegation delivered a clear message of solidarity, positioning Ankara as a steadfast defender of Somalia’s political independence during a critical session on regional stability.
Speaking during the Council’s urgent briefing on the situation in the Horn of Africa, the Turkish representatives emphasized that the preservation of Somalia’s territorial integrity is fundamental to the peace and security of the entire region. The delegation made it clear that Türkiye stands firmly with the Federal Government in Mogadishu, rejecting any actions that could compromise the nation’s unified status. This stance reflects the deep strategic partnership between the two nations, which has deepened significantly over the past decade.
Beyond the reaffirmation of sovereignty, the Turkish delegation explicitly commended the Federal Government of Somalia for its “ongoing efforts in state-building and security.” Ankara highlighted the tangible progress made by Somali authorities in strengthening national institutions and reclaiming territory from extremist groups. The statement noted that these hard-won gains must be protected from external destabilization, urging the international community to bolster, rather than undermine, Mogadishu’s capacity to govern effectively.
This intervention at the Security Council reinforces Türkiye’s role as one of Somalia’s most significant international allies. By combining strong diplomatic backing for sovereignty with recognition of domestic progress, Ankara sought to shift the narrative toward supporting Somalia’s reconstruction and stability. The delegation pledged to continue its multifaceted support for the Somali people, ensuring that their path toward a secure and united future remains unobstructed.
