Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, H.E. Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor (Madobe), attended a high-level reception hosted by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Mogadishu to mark the 76th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the World Anti-Fascist War, and the Restoration of Taiwan.

The ceremony was attended by H.E. Raisedon Zenenga, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), the Minister of Defence H.E. He highlighted the growing bilateral relationship, saying, “During the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit last year, President Xi Jinping and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud decided to elevate China-Somalia relations to a strategic partnership, charting a new course for the development of our bilateral relations.”

Speaker Madobe praised China’s historic role in bringing peace to its people 76 years ago and congratulated the government and people of China on their anniversary. He also highlighted the global initiatives of President Xi Jinping, saying, “We especially commend the leadership of President Xi Jinping and his Global Governance Initiative, which demonstrates China’s commitment to building a fair and rules-based international order in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter.”

Ambassador Wang Yu highlighted Somalia-China mutual support on sovereignty issues, saying, “Somalia firmly adheres to the one-China principle. China, proceeding from the principle of ‘one Somalia,’ firmly supports Somalia’s efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and stay committed to the peace and development process in Somalia, working together with UNTMIS, AUSSOM.”

Minister of Defence H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi extended warm congratulations to the government and people of China, noting that their historic victory was achieved through great sacrifice and perseverance. “The Minister also expressed gratitude for China’s unwavering stance on protecting Somalia’s unity, solidarity, and sovereignty. In return, Somalia affirms its adherence to the ‘One China’ principle. He encouraged Somalia and China to strengthen their cooperation in combating secessionist ideologies present within both nations.”

Speaker Madobe added: “The friendship and partnership between Somalia and China have borne fruit and continue to aim for a prosperous future for both our peoples.”

Ambassador Wang Yu also highlighted Somalia-China practical cooperation in multiple sectors, saying, “Our two sides have reaped rich outcomes from practical cooperation in economy and trade, fisheries, human resources training, humanitarian aid and other fields.”

The Deputy SRSG, H.E. Raisedon Zenenga, commended China’s role in supporting Somalia’s progress and promoting multilateralism, noting that such partnerships are vital for peace and stability in the region.

The event concluded with reaffirmed commitments between Somalia and China to deepen cooperation in various fields, including economy, trade, fisheries, human resources training, humanitarian aid, education, defence, and capacity building.
