MOGADISHU – The acting President and Speaker of the Federal Parliament, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), held a significant meeting with the Ambassador of Qatar to Somalia, Dr. Abdullah Bin Salem Al-Nuaimi, at his office in Mogadishu. The discussion focused on enhancing the strong relationship between the two nations and highlighting Somalia’s solidarity with Qatar following a recent act of aggression.
The meeting comes in the wake of a confirmed Israeli airstrike in the Qatari capital, Doha, which targeted residential buildings housing members of the Hamas political bureau. The strike, which Israel’s military claimed was a “precise strike” against senior Hamas leaders, was met with swift and widespread international condemnation.
The Somali government, in a public statement, joined a chorus of nations in denouncing the attack. Somalia’s official condemnation described the strike as a “grave terrorist act” and a “flagrant violation of all international laws and norms,” posing a serious threat to regional and international peace. The statement specifically mentioned that the attack was a “grave violation of the UN charter.” During his meeting with the ambassador, Speaker Madoobe conveyed the Somali people and government’s condolences and unwavering support to Qatar in the face of this aggression.
In response, Ambassador Al-Nuaimi expressed his gratitude for Somalia’s firm position and for the Somali Parliament’s role in nation-building and its commitment to passing essential laws. He affirmed Qatar’s dedication to bolstering its support for Somalia and accelerating the long-standing, friendly relations between the two countries. The Speaker welcomed the Ambassador’s message and expressed Somalia’s happiness in expanding its multifaceted relationship with Qatar.
