MOGADISHU (SONNA) – The Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of the Federal Government of Somalia, Dr. Ilmi Mohamud Nur, held a high-level meeting today in Mogadishu with a delegation from Vietnam interested in strengthening cooperation and investment in Somalia.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Mr. Nguyen Tuan Long, Director of the Global Link Center and Deputy Chairman of the LKS Group International Investment Group, alongside Mr. Nguyen The Tuan, Chairman of Paloma Development and Investment JSC. Both officials are also active members of the Somalia–Vietnam Business Council, a platform dedicated to fostering trade and state-to-state cooperation.

During the session, the Minister and the Ministry’s Director General, Farah Abdinur Ahmed, provided the delegation with a detailed overview of the extensive investment opportunities available in the country. They focused particularly on core economic infrastructure sectors, including ports, airports, water management, and energy.

The Vietnamese delegation expressed keen interest in participating in infrastructure development projects, specifically the construction of roads and intercity linkages, which are considered vital for boosting Somalia’s domestic economy and facilitating internal trade.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the Affordable Housing project. The Vietnamese companies indicated their readiness to introduce modern construction technology and explore possibilities for direct investment and partnerships with local Somali firms.

Both sides concluded the meeting with optimism and a commitment to strengthen ongoing discussions. They agreed to plan an official visit by Somali officials to Vietnam in the near future to solidify the bilateral relationship. This meeting marks a new chapter in reinforcing strong, lasting cooperation in trade, investment, and development between Somalia and Vietnam.
