MOGADISHU, SONNA – Somalia’s parliament has unanimously approved a resolution on the procedural rules for constitutional changes, paving the way for a possible referendum on the country’s political system.
The resolution, which was passed on Wednesday, outlines the steps and requirements for amending the provisional constitution, which was adopted in 2012.
According to the speaker of the House of the People, Adan Sheikh Madoobe , 201 out MPs voted in favor of the resolution.
The resolution states that the constitution will remain provisional until the outcome of the ongoing talks between the federal government and Somalia’s Northern regions is incorporated into the constitution, and a referendum is held with the participation of all Somali nationals.
Finalizing the draft constitution is crucial for nation building and political stability in the country.
