Amman, (SONNA) – The Head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Somali Police Force, Brigadier General Mukhudin Ahmed Osman, has participated in a high-level regional conference on combating irregular migration, held in Amman, Jordan.

The three-day conference, which ran from July 15 to 18, was organized by the Jordanian Ministry of Interior, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and Naif Arab University for Security Sciences. The event brought together senior law enforcement officials from across the Arab League member states.

The conference focused on addressing the growing threat of irregular migration and human trafficking, particularly in the Horn of Africa, where Somalia has seen a recent increase in migration-related crimes. Brig. Gen. Mukhudin delivered a detailed presentation outlining Somalia’s efforts to tackle these crimes, highlighting the role of the CID in investigating and preventing human smuggling and trafficking.

He also took part in a panel discussion examining the risks of irregular migration and the critical role security agencies—particularly police departments and criminal investigation units—play in curbing these challenges. During the session, he provided an in-depth analysis of the current migration trends in Somalia and the key factors driving the issue.

The conference concluded with a joint commitment from participating ministries and agencies to enhance support to national law enforcement through training, equipment, and strategic advisory assistance. Special emphasis was placed on strengthening the capacity of Somalia’s CID and Immigration and Naturalization Directorate to effectively combat organized crimes, including human trafficking.

The Somali delegation’s participation in the event underscored the country’s active role in regional security efforts and its determination to confront the root causes and networks behind irregular migration.
