Mogadishu, Somalia (SONNA) – The Federal Government of Somalia’s Cabinet convened its weekly meeting on Thursday, focusing on the country’s overall security situation and ongoing military operations against the Khawarij (Al-Shabaab). Chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, the session highlighted recent successes by Somali national and regional forces in counterterrorism efforts while addressing key administrative and aviation security matters.

The Cabinet assessed progress in operations aimed at dismantling Khawarij strongholds, acknowledging the gains made by joint forces in weakening the militant group’s capabilities. Officials emphasized the importance of sustaining military pressure to fully eradicate the threat posed by extremists.

Additionally, the meeting reviewed critical reports on aviation safety, particularly challenges faced by aircraft operating in Somali airspace. The government pledged to implement measures ensuring public safety while maintaining smooth air transport operations.

As part of broader governance reforms, the Cabinet discussed the standardization of civil servant ranks and salaries a key step in promoting transparency and efficiency within government institutions.

In a separate decision, the Cabinet approved the promotion of Mr. Ahmed Jama Omar to the rank of Ambassador, recognizing his expertise and diplomatic experience. The move reflects Somalia’s commitment to strengthening its foreign service amid ongoing international engagements.

The Cabinet reaffirmed its dedication to securing the nation, improving public services, and advancing institutional reforms. Further updates on security operations and policy implementations are expected in the coming weeks.
