Madrid, SONNA – The Auditor General of Somalia’s Federal Court of Justice, Lawyer Ahmed Isse Guutaale, took part in a high-level international conference in Madrid this week, underscoring Somalia’s commitment to financial accountability and anti-corruption efforts.
The event, titled the “Mastery Initiative,” was a two-week program co-hosted by Spain’s State Audit Office (SAI Spain) and the Autonomous University of Madrid, with backing from Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The forum brought together audit leaders from across the globe to enhance leadership skills, foster international cooperation, and share best practices in financial oversight amid complex global challenges.
Somalia played a notable role in the discussions, particularly in sessions focusing on financial risk management, anti-corruption strategies, and transparency in governance. Auditor General Guutaale highlighted Somalia’s progress in strengthening public financial oversight and the critical role of audit institutions in ensuring accountability.
“This initiative is an important platform for sharing expertise and reinforcing the capacity of audit institutions to combat corruption and promote good governance,” said Guutaale. “Somalia is actively working to align with international standards in financial accountability, and such collaborations are vital for our progress.”
The conference also explored innovative approaches to auditing in response to emerging global risks, including economic instability and climate-related financial pressures.
Somalia’s participation signals its growing engagement with international partners in governance reform, as the country continues to rebuild its institutions and enhance fiscal transparency.
