Mogadishu, (SONNA) — As a member of the United Nations Security Council, the Federal Republic of Somalia welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran as an important and timely step towards de-escalation, confidence-building, and the preservation of regional and international peace and security.
Somalia commends the United States for its leadership in advancing this move toward restraint and dialogue, and acknowledges the engagement of the Islamic Republic of Iran in supporting a path that opens space for diplomacy. Somalia further expresses its deep appreciation to The Islamic Republic of Pakistan alongside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, The Republic of Türkiye and The Arab Republic of Egypt for their constructive mediation efforts, which contributed meaningfully to bringing the parties toward this agreement.
As a nation closely linked to the stability of the Red Sea and the wider Gulf region, Somalia underscores the importance of implementation of the ceasefire agreement and calls for continued, structured, dialogue aimed at achieving a comprehensive and sustainable resolution.
