Kampala, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, paid a one-day official visit to Uganda today at the invitation of his counterpart, President Yoweri Museveni. The two leaders held productive and wide-ranging discussions at the State House in Nakasero.
The meeting concluded with several key outcomes:
- The two Presidents reaffirmed the strong and historic bilateral relations between Somalia and Uganda, commending the close cooperation across various sectors.
- They discussed regional security dynamics, emphasizing the critical need to maintain peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
- Both leaders welcomed the launch of the new African Union peace support mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), marking a new phase of support for Somalia’s security transition.
- They underscored the importance of enhancing international support for the implementation of Somalia’s Security Development Plan and strengthening the capacity of the Somali National Army.
- The Presidents also revisited the bilateral defense cooperation agreement previously signed between the two nations, directing relevant institutions to expedite its implementation.
- President Hassan Sheikh expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation, and formally invited President Museveni for an official visit to Mogadishu.
- In response, President Yoweri Museveni thanked President Hassan Sheikh for his visit and accepted the invitation to visit the Somali capital in the near future.
