Rome, (SONNA) – The State Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon. Asad Abdirizak Mohamed, led Somalia’s official delegation to the IFAD Innovation Day 2025, hosted by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

The annual event celebrates successful innovations that have made a significant impact on global food systems. This year, special attention was given to innovations spearheaded by governments, particularly in fragile and vulnerable contexts.

Minister Asad opened the panel discussion titled “Government-Led Innovation in Fragile Contexts”, where he underscored the importance of government leadership that is grounded in local needs and strengthened by collaboration with international experts and partners. He noted that such leadership can drive meaningful change, enhance the resilience of food systems, and support economic growth in fragile states.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation also participated actively in various segments of the conference, including open forums focused on the role of governments in advancing innovation during periods of fragility. At the IFAD Marketplace exhibition, Somalia’s Center for Innovation in Agriculture and Development (CIAD) showcased several successful initiatives supported by ministry-led programs and projects, including the RLRP project.
