Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Federal Government of Somalia today successfully repatriated 173 citizens who had been released from prisons in Libya.
A flight carrying 151 returnees, mostly young people, landed at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, where they were warmly received by senior officials including the Second Deputy Prime Minister, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, representatives from the Office of the Special Envoy of the President for Migrant Returns and Child Rights, the National Commission for Refugees and IDPs (NCRI), the EU Special Envoy, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which supported the operation.
An additional 22 returnees were flown to Hargeisa, while the remaining 151 arrived in Mogadishu.
Speaking to the media, several returnees expressed their joy at being back home and thanked the Somali government for rescuing them from the harsh conditions they faced in Libyan detention centers.
