Kampala, Uganda – SONNA: The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and his delegation were warmly welcomed upon their arrival in Kampala, Uganda, where they will attend the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) Summit.
The high-level meeting, set to begin today, will focus on regional security, counterterrorism efforts, and strengthening cooperation among African nations in the fight against extremist groups. President Mohamud is expected to highlight the progress made by the Somali government and its people in combating terrorism, particularly against the Khawarij.
During the summit, the Somali leader will engage in discussions with other African heads of state on enhancing joint military and political efforts to eliminate terrorism in Somalia and the broader Horn of Africa region. The talks are expected to address increased logistical support, intelligence sharing, and stabilization programs to consolidate gains made against insurgent groups.
This visit underscores Somalia’s commitment to regional collaboration in restoring peace and security, as well as Uganda’s continued role in AUSSOM, where it has been a key troop-contributing country.
The outcomes of the summit could shape future strategies in the ongoing battle against extremism in Somalia and reinforce African Union-led peacekeeping efforts.
