Abuja, SONNA – The Federal Government of Somalia has officially become a member of the Network of African Data Protection Authorities (NAPDA). The formalization of Somalia’s membership took place following the 8th meeting of the Association, held recently in Abuja, Nigeria.
Mr. Mohamed Nur Olow, the Director General of Somalia’s National Data Protection Authority, represented the country at the meeting. He conveyed Somalia’s firm commitment to safeguarding personal data, protecting digital privacy, and actively participating in regional forums dedicated to addressing data protection issues.
The NAPDA meeting brought together heads of data protection authorities from across the African continent. Discussions focused in depth on strengthening cooperation among member countries, facilitating the exchange of valuable experiences, and working towards the development of unified laws and mechanisms essential for navigating contemporary digital challenges.
On the sidelines of the conference, Director General Olow held separate bilateral meetings with the heads of other participating organizations. In these discussions, he emphasized the critical importance of close cooperation between Somalia and other African nations in effectively addressing common challenges in the field of data protection.
