Mogadishu(SONNA)-Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism has on Saturday held an event aimed at marking the 50th anniversary of the Somali National Press Day, in attendance with the Minister, Deputy Minister, Director General, and Directors and journalists from private media houses in Mogadishu.

Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Daud Aweis Jama congratulated journalists and media practitioners nationwide on the 50th anniversary of Somali Press Day.

The Minister urged journalists to preserve the writing of the Somali Language and its development, saying that it was good luck to witness the first newspaper which is still working, despite challenges in the past.

“January 21st, 1973 was the first day we had a newspaper written in our mother tongue, Somali language, therefore, its usage is important for our public and media sector. There is progress in our media both public and private sectors”, The Minister said.

Director General, Abdullahi Hayir Dualle and Directors from Private media houses also highlighted the significance of National Press Day, emphasizing maintaining journalistic professionalism based on facts, accuracy, and support of the country.
