Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Director General of the Immigration and Naturalization Agency, Mr. Mustafa Sheikh Ali Duhulow, held a critical meeting with the Joint Committee tasked with overseeing the procurement process for upgrading Somalia’s national passport system.
The committee includes representatives from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the Federal Ministry of Finance, and the Immigration and Naturalization Agency. The aim is to guide and advise on a transparent tender process that will deliver a comprehensive overhaul of Somalia’s passport—ushering in a secure, modern, third-generation travel document that meets global standards.
Director General Duhulow emphasized the urgent need for a high-quality passport embedded with advanced security features, affirming that the procurement process will be fully transparent and open to qualified international firms with the technical expertise to modernize Somalia’s passport infrastructure.
He praised UNOPS for its continued technical support and commended the close collaboration among HSJ, the Ministry of Finance, and all stakeholders involved. Duhulow underscored that the project marks a historic milestone in enhancing the credibility and global recognition of the Somali passport.
He concluded by urging the committee to expedite the documentation process to allow for the official launch of the procurement phase within a short timeframe, reaffirming the agency’s full commitment to implementing this vital national project.
