The Federal Republic of Somalia today welcomed a high-level delegation led by H.E. Aisha Mohamed, the Minister of Defense of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, during her visit to Mogadishu on 2 January 2025. The delegation was received by H.E. Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, the Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
This visit is part of ongoing efforts to build on the progress achieved since the signing of the Ankara Declaration on 11 December 2024. It follows the visit of a high-level Somali delegation to Addis Ababa, led by H.E. Ali Omar , State Minister at the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the discussions, the Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Somalia emphasized the ongoing efforts to finalize the AUSSOM mission composition through simultaneous bilateral and multilateral engagements. He reiterated the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to honoring previous agreements and expressed its willingness to consider Ethiopia’s request to contribute forces to the AUSSOM mission.
The Federal Republic of Somalia underscores the importance of these high-level bilateral discussions, which represent a significant step toward consolidating and promoting regional stability, enhancing mutual trust, and reaffirming respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
In alignment with its steadfast commitment to the principles of the Ankara Declaration, the Federal Republic of Somalia reaffirms its dedication to implementing the agreements reached. It believes that the principles outlined in the declaration provide a solid foundation for rebuilding trust and fostering positive cooperation that serves shared interest.
