Madrid, (SONNA) – The Spain–Africa Summit 2025 officially opened in Madrid with the participation of high-level representatives from Spain and across the African continent. The Federal Republic of Somalia was represented by the Minister of Public Works, H.E. Dr. Elmi Mohamoud Nur, who delivered a keynote address at the opening session.
In his remarks, Minister Elmi outlined Somalia’s priorities in reconstruction and infrastructure development, including seaports, roads, energy, water management, and regional connectivity. He presented the country’s new National Transformation Plan (2025–2029), which aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the Spain–Africa Strategy.
The Minister called on Spain and the international community to step up investment in Somalia’s development sectors, emphasizing that the country is entering a new era of progress and partnership. This year, Somalia’s national theme at the summit is: “Somalia is not being rebuilt — it is being transformed” — a message that reflects the nation’s renewed focus on stability, sustainable growth, and global cooperation.
