Mogadishu, SONNA – The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly rejected recent media allegations suggesting the existence of a so-called “secret deal” between Somalia and the Kingdom of Sweden linking development aid to deportations.
In an official statement, the Office of the Prime Minister described the claims as false, misleading, and unfounded, emphasizing that Somalia has no secret or conditional arrangement with any partner regarding the return of its nationals or the allocation of development assistance.
“The cooperation between Somalia and Sweden is long-standing, transparent, and grounded in mutual respect and international law,” the statement read. It further underscored that all engagements between the two nations are conducted through formal diplomatic channels and are subject to cabinet oversight and institutional accountability.
The government clarified that all development assistance to Somalia is managed through transparent mechanisms, including the World Bank, United Nations agencies, and the Federal Government’s central financial system (Country System).
The statement reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in all its international partnerships and development cooperation frameworks.
