Mogadishu, SONNA – In a momentous event, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his profound gratitude to the countries that supported the historic decision by the United Nations Security Council to lift the arms embargo on Somalia, which had been in place for over 32 years.

The President delivered a heartfelt speech, acknowledging the unwavering support received by the Somali government and people throughout their long struggle to achieve this pivotal victory. He emphasized the immense significance of this decision in securing Somalia’s freedom from terrorism and outlined the government’s plan for responsible arms management.

“This victory is a testament to the collective efforts of the Somali people and the international community,” President Mohamud declared. “We are deeply grateful to all the governments that stood by us during this challenging journey. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in bringing us closer to achieving lasting peace and stability in Somalia.”

The President also paid tribute to the dedicated leaders and organizations within the Somali government who played a crucial role in securing this landmark achievement. He reaffirmed the government’s full commitment to ensuring the responsible use of arms and their exclusive application for the liberation of the country and the defense of the nation.

The lifting of the arms embargo signifies a new chapter for Somalia, paving the way for a stronger defense system and a more secure future. As the country embarks on this new era, President Mohamud’s words of gratitude and commitment resonate with hope and optimism for a peaceful and prosperous Somalia.
