New York, (SONNA) — The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ltr Gen. Bashir Mohamed Jama, represented Somalia at the High-Level Roundtable on Solutions to Internal Displacement during the 80th UNGA in New York, jointly organized by the IOM, UNDP and UNHCR.
In his remarks, Minister Bashir stressed that displacement in Somalia is not a statistic but a daily reality for millions, driven by conflict, recurring droughts, floods, and climate change.
He highlighted key steps by the Government of Somalia: integrating durable solutions in the National Development Plan, establishing institutions like the National Disaster Management Agency, and advancing climate resilience ahead of COP30.
The Minister called for global unity, sustained financing and strong political commitments. He emphasized that addressing displacement is both a humanitarian duty and a development strategy for stability and prosperity in Somalia.
