Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, today held a farewell meeting with a delegation of Egyptian Armed Forces officers who have been in Somalia on a working visit.
The visit served as a preparatory step for the upcoming deployment of Egyptian troops to the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). These forces are expected to contribute significantly to the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security and achieve stability.
In bidding farewell to the delegation, Minister Fiqi expressed appreciation to the Arab Republic of Egypt for its continued support to the people and government of Somalia. He underlined that Egypt’s participation in AUSSOM will play a vital role in countering terrorism, advancing peace in Somalia, and promoting stability across the region.
Over their week-long visit, the Egyptian officers toured several locations, including Jowhar, Balcad, Mahaday, Buurane, and the Ballidoogle base, where the Egyptian contingent is anticipated to be stationed.
