Mogadishu, SONNA – Somalia’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has commenced early preparations for the country’s participation in the 30th United Nations Climate Change conference (COP30), scheduled to be held in Belem, Brazil, in 2025.
The Ministry recently organized a preparatory meeting that convened technical experts from various federal government ministries and agencies. The primary objective of the gathering was to consolidate ongoing efforts and develop strategies to enhance Somalia’s engagement and contribution at the upcoming international conference.
Discussions during the meeting focused on identifying challenges encountered and lessons learned from Somalia’s participation in previous climate change conferences. Experts shared insights aimed at leveraging past experiences to inform future strategies. A key emphasis was placed on unifying the national vision regarding climate action and meticulously preparing the necessary technical information to ensure Somalia plays a visible and impactful role at COP30.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change urged all partner institutions to actively and fully participate in the preparatory process. They stressed the importance of strengthening inter-agency cooperation and collaboration to maximize the opportunities that COP30 can offer the nation, particularly in attracting investment, promoting sustainable development initiatives, and bolstering efforts to address the impacts of climate change.
