Mogadishu(SONNA)-The Federal Republic of Somalia welcomes the agreement reached on Tuesday, 23 December, in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, regarding the release and exchange of detainees in Yemen, following constructive consultations held from 9 to 23 December. This humanitarian arrangement, achieved through dialogue facilitated by regional partners with the support of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), constitutes an important confidence-building measure and a meaningful step toward easing the hardship faced by detainees and their families.
Somalia highly appreciates the sincere efforts of the brotherly Sultanate of Oman in mediating this process, conducted in close coordination with the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and also values the constructive role and valuable contributions of both the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross in supporting and facilitating it.
The Federal Republic of Somalia reaffirms its firm support for regional and international efforts aimed at securing a comprehensive, inclusive, and peaceful settlement to the Yemeni crisis, in a manner that safeguards Yemen’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. Somalia hopes that the effective implementation of this agreement will contribute to strengthening mutual trust, upholding humanitarian considerations, and promoting sustainable progress toward lasting peace, stability, and security for the brotherly people of Yemen.
