CAIRO, Egypt – The Minister of Defence of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, held a strategic meeting today in Cairo with his Yemeni counterpart, Lieutenant General Mohsen Mohammed Ahmed Al-Daari.

The high-level talks focused on bolstering defense cooperation and securing the critical maritime corridor between the two nations. The meeting was attended by the Commander of the Somali National Armed Forces, Major General Odowaa Yusuf Rage, alongside other senior military officials from both countries.

Central to the discussions was the urgent need to strengthen maritime security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Both ministers explored joint mechanisms to combat the illicit flow of weapons, which terrorist groups exploit to destabilize the region.

Minister Fiqi and Lt. Gen. Al-Daari emphasized the importance of a coordinated response to curb illegal arms trafficking and other security threats that leverage the shared waterways. They agreed on the necessity of controlling all forms of illicit movement to safeguard not only regional stability but also international maritime safety.

This meeting shows the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to regional partnerships in its broader strategy to eradicate terrorism and secure its borders.
