Mogadishu, SONNA — The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, today received the newly appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Somalia, H.E. Charles Nicholas King, at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Mogadishu. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in security, counter-terrorism, and defense sector reform.
Accompanied by senior officials from the British Embassy, Ambassador King met with Minister Fiqi to discuss ways to enhance the longstanding partnership between Somalia and the United Kingdom, with particular emphasis on advancing joint efforts in the fight against terrorism and improving Somalia’s defense capabilities.
Minister Fiqi expressed his appreciation for the United Kingdom’s continued support to Somalia’s stabilization efforts, especially in the areas of military training, security sector reform, and institutional capacity-building.
The two sides also exchanged views on supporting the ongoing activities of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which plays a critical role in securing liberated areas and consolidating peace.
Ambassador King reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to Somalia’s sovereignty, stability, and long-term development, emphasizing continued collaboration in security, counter-terrorism, and defense reform.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to advance joint initiatives that contribute to sustainable peace, enhanced security, and the rebuilding of Somalia’s national defense institutions.
