Nairobi, SONNA — The Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of the Federal Government of Somalia, Dr. Elmi Mohamud Nur, held a high-level meeting in Nairobi with Kenya’s Minister of Public Works, Lands and Urban Planning, Hon. Alice Wahome (EGH), to advance bilateral cooperation in infrastructure and urban development.
The meeting, which was also attended by Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Ambassador Jibriil Ibrahim Cabdulle, focused on expanding technical collaboration between the two ministries as both countries work to strengthen regional integration and accelerate development.
Discussions centered on three key areas of cooperation:
- Capacity Building & Knowledge Exchange: The ministers agreed to enhance collaboration in training and professional development, supporting joint learning in urbanization, housing policy, and infrastructure management.
- Acceleration of Cross-Border Development Projects: Both sides emphasized the importance of fast-tracking major projects connecting Somalia and Kenya, including infrastructure corridors that support trade, mobility, and regional stability.
- Affordable and Sustainable Housing: The leaders discussed the implementation of long-term, accessible housing programs critical to sustainable urban growth in both countries.
The meeting concluded in a positive and collaborative atmosphere, with both ministers reaffirming their commitment to strengthen ties and expand cooperation in development and construction. The renewed partnership aims to support shared national priorities and reinforce bilateral agreements between Somalia and Kenya.
