Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Council of Ministers of the Federal Republic of Somalia has approved a landmark agreement with Egypt, allowing holders of diplomatic passports from both nations to enter and exit each other’s countries without visa requirements for up to 90 days.
The decision was ratified during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between Somalia and Egypt.
The agreement was officially signed earlier in Cairo by Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi Ahmed, and Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Communities, Dr. Badr Abdelatty. The signing ceremony was attended by Somali President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Under the new agreement, Somali and Egyptian diplomats will enjoy visa-free travel for short-term visits, facilitating smoother diplomatic engagements and fostering closer cooperation between the two nations. The 90-day waiver is expected to enhance political, economic, and cultural exchanges.
This move reflects the growing diplomatic ties between Somalia and Egypt, as both countries continue to collaborate on regional security, trade, and development initiatives.
The Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the agreement emphasizes the government’s commitment to expanding international partnerships while easing travel restrictions for its officials.
