Mogadishu, SONNA – Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), met with Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu to discuss cooperation under the initiative “Action for a Mine-Free Africa.”

During the talks, Minister Fartaag congratulated China on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and expressed gratitude for China’s continued support in Somalia’s security and peace efforts. He highlighted the severe impact of landmines in Somalia, stressing the need for sustained international assistance.

Ambassador Wang Yu reaffirmed China’s commitment to bolstering Somalia’s security sector, particularly through support for the Somali Explosives Management Agency (SEMA). He referenced Chinese President Xi Jinping’s keynote speech at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which introduced the “Action for a Mine-Free Africa” initiative aimed at addressing the landmine crisis across the continent.

As part of this commitment, China has donated 1 million RMB to SEMA, under Somalia’s Ministry of Internal Security, to enhance the country’s capabilities in landmine surveys and risk education.

Minister Fartaag expressed deep appreciation for China’s support and reiterated Somalia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with China in promoting peace and reconstruction in the country.
