Mogadishu, SONNA – Today marks the 64th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Somalia and China, a partnership that has grown stronger over the decades. Established on December 14, 1960, shortly after Somalia’s independence, the relationship has been built on trust, mutual respect, and shared aspirations for progress.
In September 2024, relations between the two nations were elevated to the level of strategic partnership during a historic meeting between the Presidents of Somalia and China. This milestone reflects the deepening ties and commitment to working together to achieve mutual development goals.
Premier Zhou Enlai’s description of Africa as a continent “awakening, advancing, and transforming” during his visit to Somalia in the 1960s resonates deeply with Somalia’s current path of transformation. Today, Somalia continues to embrace change and development, looking forward to even greater collaboration with China to achieve its vision of progress and prosperity.
As we celebrate this 64th anniversary, Somalia reaffirms its commitment to strengthening this vital partnership for the benefit of both nations.
