The Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), met with the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives of the United States in Washington on Thursday.
The meeting discussed how to enhance the relationship and cooperation between the Somali and US parliaments, and how they can support each other in the areas of development, security, and democracy.
Speaker Madoobe briefed the committee on the achievements and challenges of the Somali parliament, such as passing laws, securing debt relief, and combating terrorism. He also expressed his interest in facilitating dialogue and trade between the two countries.
The committee praised the efforts and progress of the Somali parliament in advancing the state-building process, and expressed their readiness to create a new partnership with the Somali parliament.
Speaker Madoobe thanked the committee and the US government for their consistent support to the Somali people and government. He said that the meeting was part of his efforts to strengthen and enhance the ties and cooperation between the Somali parliament and other parliaments in the world.
