Somali Scholars in Southwest Call for Unity Against Khawarij, Warn Against Their Deceptive Plots

Baidoa, SONNA – Prominent religious scholars in Somalia’s Southwest State have issued a strong call for unity among the people to confront the Khawarij, an extremist group destabilizing the region. The scholars urged communities not to fall for the group’s divisive tactics and destructive ideologies.

During a gathering in Baidoa, the clerics emphasized the importance of solidarity in countering the Khawarij’s violent campaigns, which have targeted civilians, government institutions, and security forces. They described the group’s actions as contrary to Islamic teachings and a threat to Somalia’s stability.

“The Khawarij only seek to spread chaos and division among Muslims,” said Sheikh Abdiwahid Shiekh Mohamud, the chair of AhluSunna Southwest. “We must stand together, reject their false propaganda, and support the legitimate efforts to restore peace.”

The scholars also called on the government and security forces to intensify operations against the militants while ensuring the protection of civilians. Additionally, they urged young people to avoid being misled by extremist rhetoric and instead focus on education and constructive roles in society.

This appeal comes amid ongoing military operations against the Khawarij in various parts of the country. The Southwest State has been a key battleground in the fight against extremism, with both local and federal forces working to dismantle the group’s strongholds.
