The Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, visited Afmadow district in Lower Jubba region today, as part of his tour to assess the humanitarian situation caused by the heavy rains that hit the country in the past weeks.
Mr. Barre was received by the President of Jubbaland, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Islam, the district authorities and various segments of the society at the airport of Afmadow district. He expressed his solidarity with the people affected by the floods and assured them of the federal government’s support.
Mr. Barre is on a working visit to the regions of Jubbaland, and he arrived in Kismayo earlier this week, where he was warmly welcomed by the local officials and residents. He inaugurated the Ministry of Health of the Jubaland State, and he laid a foundation stone for a paved road that will connect Kismayo to other districts. He also visited the main hospital of the city and praised the health workers for their efforts.
The Prime Minister’s visit to Jubbaland is aimed at strengthening the cooperation between the federal government and the state administration, as well as addressing the urgent needs of the people affected by the natural disaster. Mr. Barre said that his government is committed to improving the security, infrastructure and social services in the region. He also called for unity and dialogue among the Somali people to overcome the challenges facing the country.
