Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, hosted an iftar dinner in honor of prominent Somali women as part of the March 8th celebrations marking International Women’s Day.
During the event, President Mohamud highlighted the critical role Somali women play in the fight against the terrorist group Al-Shabaab. He emphasized that women are the backbone of society and actively contribute to efforts to liberate the country by raising awareness, supporting security forces, and rebuilding communities in areas freed from militant control.
The president also praised Somali women’s contributions to the country’s democratic progress and national liberation. He stressed the importance of their active participation in direct elections, ensuring they have a voice in shaping the nation’s future, competing for public office, and playing a visible role in national leadership.
