Mogadishu, Somalia – November 21, 2024 – The Somali Police Chief, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi, has expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its generous donation of equipment to the Somali Police Force, specifically to the Mine Action Unit. This equipment will enhance the unit’s ability to detect and neutralize explosive devices, which have posed significant threats to the Somali population.
This initiative is a key component of the broader strategy to develop and enhance the capacity of the Somali Police Force in dealing with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The Mine Action Unit is receiving specialized training from the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) to improve their skills and effectiveness in mitigating the dangers posed by these explosives.
Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi highlighted the critical importance of this support in ensuring the safety and security of Somali citizens. He emphasized that the equipment and training provided by Japan and UNMAS are vital in the ongoing efforts to protect the public from the threats of IEDs.
