MOGADISHU – The Commander of the Somali Police Force, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi, held a meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, to discuss key security matters and reinforce their partnership.
The meeting, which took place in Mogadishu, focused on a range of critical issues, including the consolidation and strengthening of security institutions in Somalia. A main point of discussion was the acceleration of efforts to reform and prepare the Darawiish forces for deployment to areas recently liberated from extremists. The objective is for these forces to play a role in maintaining peace and stability in those regions.
Ambassador Di Mauro, who assumed her duties in September 2025, has an extensive background in diplomacy and international relations, with a particular focus on security cooperation. Her meeting with the Police Commander highlights the EU’s continued support for Somalia’s security sector reform and state-building initiatives.
The EU has been a consistent partner in supporting Somalia’s security sector, providing financial and technical assistance for the police force and other security agencies. The meeting is a step toward ensuring that these collaborative efforts are aligned with the government’s strategic objectives to restore security and extend its authority across the country.
