Mogadishu, (SONNA) — Members of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia held their 14th session of the sixth parliamentary term at the Parliament headquarters, chaired by Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe).

The session, attended by 146 lawmakers, focused on the first reading of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, as well as the first reading of the Draft Bill on International Judicial Cooperation.

Minister of Women and Human Rights Development, Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, presented the African Charter, explaining its core provisions to the House. While the session did not allow for debate at this stage, members raised questions regarding the Charter’s guiding principles and potential budgetary implications.

Additionally, the House conducted the first reading of the Draft Bill on International Judicial Cooperation. Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hassan Maalim Mahmoud, briefed lawmakers on the bill’s objectives and scope.

In closing remarks, Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur instructed the relevant parliamentary committees to prepare for the second reading of both legislative items and return them to the House for further debate and deliberation.
