Somali National Army Secures Strategic Villages in Lower Shabelle Offensive

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Somali National Army (SNA) has achieved a significant operational success, fully capturing several key villages from the Al-Shabaab militant group in the Lower Shabelle region. The operation, spearheaded by the 19th Gorgor Commando Brigade, marks a continuation of the government’s comprehensive campaign to dismantle extremist networks and restore stability in southern Somalia.

According to official reports from the Somali government, the SNA has secured the villages of Maalinka, Baladul Amiin, Omar Beere, and Balow. These areas, which have long been under the control of Al-Shabaab, were liberated following a swift and decisive military push. The operation is part of a broader strategy aimed at severing the militants’ logistical and financial lifelines, which heavily depend on their influence in the region’s agricultural heartlands and key transit routes.

During the advance, military forces engaged in clearing operations to ensure the safety of the local population. This included the removal of heavy landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that Al-Shabaab had planted in and around the liberated areas. The demining effort is a critical component of the mission, designed to protect civilians and enable the free movement of people and goods.

The successful liberation of these villages is a welcome victory for both the Somali government and the residents of Lower Shabelle, who have endured years of oppression and extortion by the militant group. Local reports indicate that the communities greeted the advancing forces with a sense of relief, having faced severe restrictions and violence. The government’s push to secure these areas is seen as a vital step towards rebuilding local governance and delivering essential services that have long been absent.

The ongoing military offensive in the Lower Shabelle region has been gaining momentum, with the SNA consistently applying pressure on Al-Shabaab strongholds. The military’s sustained campaign, supported by international partners through aerial strikes and training, is aimed at securing lasting gains and preventing the militants from regaining control of liberated territories. As the offensive continues, the government has affirmed its commitment to not only clear territories of militants but also to hold them and initiate programs to stabilize and rebuild the communities affected by the conflict.
