Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Somali National Army (SNA) announced on Thursday that it had carried out a successful operation against al-Shabaab militants in the Bay region, killing several of them and seizing weapons and explosives.
According to the SNA, the operation was conducted by the 154th unit of the 8th battalion of the 60th division in the area of Rahole, Ganuway, Degolol, Banyaal, Bilale, Buulla-Adoy and other areas in the northwest of Dinsoor district.
The deputy commander of the 154th brigade of the 8th division of the 60th division, captain Mursal Ali Mohamed, said that the mission was aimed at targeting a group of al-Shabaab militants who were hiding in remote areas and planning attacks on civilians and security forces.
He said that the SNA had intelligence about their movements and locations and launched a surprise attack on them. He added that they had lunch in places where they suspected that al-Shabaab militants were marrying each other.
He praised his troops for their bravery and professionalism and vowed to continue fighting against al-Shabaab until they are completely eliminated from Somali soil.
