Wanlaweyn, SONNA – The Somali National Army’s 7th Battalion of the April 12 Division has successfully executed a significant operation against the Khawarij in the Lower Shabelle region. The operation, which aimed to dismantle militant hideouts and restore peace, was led by Commander Ahmed Abdi Ali, known as “Ahmed Gashaan,” along with his deputy and other senior officers.
The operation targeted several key areas, including Bagdad, Doon, Kaharow, Jambalul, Doon Dehere, Godoofaar, Baladul-Amin, Warhaman, and Tihsil. These locations were identified as strongholds where the Khawarij had been harassing local communities.
Commander Ahmed Gashaan emphasized the importance of this operation in disrupting the activities of the Khawarij and ensuring the safety of the residents. “Our mission is to clear these areas of any threats and provide a secure environment for the people,” he stated.
The operation is part of a broader strategy by the Somali National Army to combat insurgency and stabilize the region. By targeting the hideouts and supply lines of the militants, the army aims to weaken their operational capabilities and reduce their influence in the Lower Shabelle region.
Local residents have expressed relief and support for the army’s efforts. Many have suffered from the constant threat posed by the Khawarij, and the successful operation brings hope for a more peaceful future. “We are grateful for the army’s intervention. It gives us a sense of security and hope,” said a resident of Baladul-Amin.
The Somali National Army has reiterated its commitment to continuing operations against militant groups across the country. With the support of local communities and international partners, the army aims to build on this success and further enhance security and stability in Somalia.
This operation marks a significant step forward in the fight against insurgency in the Lower Shabelle region, showcasing the determination and capability of the Somali National Army to protect its citizens and uphold national security.
