Dhusamareb, Galmudug – SONNA – The Somali National Army has concluded a major military training exercise in Dhusamareb, aimed at enhancing the combat readiness of its forces in Galmudug State. The training was overseen by Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar (General Khalid), Commander of the SNA Infantry Forces, alongside Brigadier General Ahmed Isse, Commander of the Army Training Command.
The exercise involved units from the various SNA Divisions, with a strong emphasis on improving tactical skills, coordination, and battlefield effectiveness. Following its conclusion, military officials inaugurated another training session for the SNA Heroes, an elite unit tasked with countering extremist threats in the region.
During an assessment briefing, Colonel Mohamed Dhagaweyne, Commander of the 21st SNA Division, provided updates on the troops’ combat readiness, confirming their preparedness for upcoming operations against armed extremist groups.
Brigadier General Khalid and Colonel Ahmed Isse praised the soldiers for their discipline and performance during the drills, urging local communities to remain steadfast amid security challenges posed by militant factions.
“Our forces are making significant progress in training and operational capability,” said General Khalid. “We urge the public to support these efforts as we work to restore lasting peace.”
In a ceremony marking the end of the training, distinguished soldiers who demonstrated exceptional skills were awarded certificates in recognition of their achievements. Military leaders emphasized that such training programs are critical in strengthening the SNA’s ability to combat terrorism and stabilize liberated regions
The exercise underscores the Somali government’s commitment to professionalizing its armed forces and intensifying operations against Al-Shabaab and other insurgent groups. With ongoing international support, the SNA continues to enhance its operational capacity to secure key regions, including Galmudug.
