Mogadishu, Somalia – July 10, 2025 – The Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education has enthusiastically welcomed the Federal Government of Somalia’s Council of Ministers’ endorsement of the members of the National Higher Education Commission. This pivotal step is set to significantly strengthen the governance and development of tertiary education across the nation.

The newly approved Commission is established under Higher Education Law No. 30, enacted in December 2024. Its mandate is to provide comprehensive leadership, administration, and guidance to all higher education institutions within the country, ensuring adherence to the principles and provisions of the Higher Education Law.

The selection process for the Commission’s members was rigorous and multi-faceted. Officials tasked with the selection diligently applied the legal requirements and stringent criteria set forth for membership. This meticulous approach was designed to ensure transparency, integrity, and the appointment of highly qualified individuals capable of steering the future of Somalia’s higher education landscape.

The Ministry expressed its optimism that the establishment of this Commission will pave the way for enhanced quality, standardization, and a more robust regulatory framework for higher education, ultimately benefiting students and contributing to the nation’s human capital development.
