Somali Government Reopens Over 50 Roads in Mogadishu to Ease Traffic and Boost Mobility

MOGADISHU – The Somali government today announced the reopening of more than 50 roads in the capital, Mogadishu, that had been closed for years due to security concerns. The move aims to alleviate severe traffic congestion and improve the daily lives of residents. This decision reflects the government’s growing confidence in the improved security environment and the increased efficiency of Somali security forces.

According to a press statement from the Federal Government, the reopening of these routes is a result of a comprehensive assessment of the security situation. The government has prioritized a balance between maintaining safety and ensuring the free movement of people and goods.

The closure of key roads over the past years, particularly near government buildings and diplomatic compounds, has severely impacted urban mobility, disrupting access to schools, hospitals, markets, and businesses. The reopening of these roads is expected to significantly ease traffic, stimulate local economic activity, and restore normalcy to city life.

The Banadir Regional Administration, in coordination with federal agencies, will oversee the phased reopening. The government has also appealed to the public to cooperate with security forces to ensure the process is conducted safely and efficiently. This initiative is a clear signal of the government’s commitment to urban renewal and building a more open, secure, and accessible capital for all citizens.
