Somali Government Condemns Ethiopia’s Territorial Violations and Interference

Mogadishu, Somalia (SONNA): The Somali Federal Government has condemned Ethiopia’s recent actions within Somali borders, asserting these activities constitute a severe breach of international law and a threat to Somalia’s sovereignty and stability.

Over the past year, Ethiopia has engaged in a series of provocative and illegal operations aimed at territorial expansion. These include the illegal importation of weapons and the training and deployment of militias within Somali regions such as Puntland and Galmudug.

The Somali Government reports that Ethiopia recently orchestrated the landing of two Ethiopian Airlines planes in Kismayo, which reportedly carried illegal arms. Additionally, these planes are said to have transported Mahmud Sayid Aden, the former Vice President of Jubaland, along with his entourage, to Ethiopia. The government claims these actions are part of Ethiopia’s efforts to destabilize the region and exert control over the Gedo region by supporting militia groups.

These actions, described as reckless and aggressive, allegedly include arming and organizing militias from Hirshabelle and deploying them into Somalia. These developments are seen as Ethiopia’s attempts to disrupt Somalia’s unity and sovereignty, posing a significant threat to the security of the entire Horn of Africa.

Somalia accuses Ethiopia of undermining the principles and objectives of the African transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), which aims to support peace and stability in the region. The Somali Government argues that Ethiopia’s behavior not only breaches international norms but also jeopardizes ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve bilateral issues peacefully.

In response to these incursions, the Somali Government has issued stern warnings to individuals collaborating with Ethiopian authorities in actions against Somalia’s statehood and independence, pledging that such acts will be met with severe consequences. The government reaffirmed its commitment to defend Somalia’s territorial integrity and warned Ethiopia against any further violations.

Despite the tensions, Somalia emphasized its dedication to peaceful coexistence and mutual respect between the two nations. However, it underscored that it would not tolerate any actions that compromise its independence, unity, and security.

Somalia remains open to dialogue and cooperation that respects its sovereignty and promotes regional stability. The government urges Ethiopia to cease all destabilizing activities and engage in constructive discussions to foster peace and collaboration in the Horn of Africa.
