Mogadishu(SONNA)-The Somali Federal Government has strongly condemned Ethiopia’s illegal actions after two Ethiopian Airlines planes delivered weapons in Kismayo, the capital of Jubaland State in southern Somalia.
The Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, H.E. Abdurahman Yusuf Al-Adala said a press conference held in Mogadishu.
Minister Al-Adala revealed that the planes not only offloaded illegal arms but also transported Jubaland officials, including former Deputy President Mahmoud Sayid Adam. He accused Ethiopia of conspiring to legitimize Ethiopian-backed militias and destabilize the Gedo region.
The Deputy Minister highlighted that Ethiopia has been engaging in illegal interventions within Somali territory for some time, including arming mercenary militias aimed at undermining Somalia’s peace and stability. He emphasized that the Somali Federal Government has taken firm measures to protect national sovereignty and security, vowing that anyone collaborating with the Ethiopian regime will face justice under Somali law.
Al-Adala further criticized Ethiopia’s irresponsible actions, stating that they undermine Somalia’s fight against terrorism and contradict the principles of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
He also noted that these actions jeopardize ongoing talks between Somalia and Ethiopia regarding the illegal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Ethiopia signed with Somaliland.
The Deputy Minister reminded the public that Ethiopia had previously smuggled illegal arms into Puntland and Galmudug regions, further demonstrating its agenda to disrupt peace and stability in the region.
