MOGADISHU – The Somali government has officially announced its commitment to integrating people with disabilities into the country’s political life. This significant declaration was made at a public meeting in Mogadishu, led by the Acting Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Ambassador Ilyaas Sheikh Omar. The event was held in collaboration with the constitutional review agencies to discuss the rights of people with special needs and their role in the ongoing constitutional reform process.
State minister Ilyaas emphasized that this meeting was a unique and particularly important gathering, distinct from previous consultations. He stated that the government is prepared to implement measures to ensure the full political participation of people with disabilities. The meeting was attended by representatives from the three constitutional bodies, the Chairman of the National Disability Agency, and citizens with disabilities.
During the session, citizens with special needs had the opportunity to ask questions and voice their opinions on how they can most effectively participate in the constitutional review and secure their rights. This initiative highlights the government’s readiness to empower this demographic and guarantee their inclusion in national politics and decision-making processes.
