Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Federal Government of Somalia has issued a strong condemnation against the Ethiopian government, accusing it of inciting community clashes in the Gedo region as part of its interference in Somalia’s independence and sovereignty.
In a statement released today, the Somali government detailed the events that occurred this morning when Ethiopian troops from the Doolow district advanced towards the Bulo Xaawo district. The Ethiopian forces were met by local residents and the Somali Armed Forces, who successfully blocked their advance.
The Somali government emphasized its commitment to good neighborliness and peaceful coexistence, but highlighted a recurring pattern of conflict instigation by the Addis Ababa administration, which it views as actions undermining Somali independence.
“The Federal Government of Somalia is always ready for good neighborliness and peaceful coexistence,” the statement read. “However, the Addis Ababa administration has a habit of creating conflicts in the region and taking measures against the independence of Somalia.”
The government affirmed its readiness to defend Somalia’s sovereignty and called on the international community, including the United Nations and the African Union, to condemn Ethiopia’s actions, which it described as detrimental to both regional and international peace.
“The Federal Government of Somalia is ready to defend its independence and sovereignty and calls on the international community, led by the United Nations and the African Union, to condemn these heinous acts by Ethiopia, which undermine regional and international peace”.
