Mogadishu, SONNA –The Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, has actively participated in the two-day preliminary meeting leading up to the 15th Islamic Summit, set to take place in Banjul, the capital of Gambia.
The preparatory session, a precursor to the main event scheduled for May 4-5, 2024, focused on laying the groundwork for the summit’s agenda, with particular emphasis on addressing the pressing challenges confronting the Islamic world. High on the list of priorities was the enduring issue of Palestine, reflecting the Organization’s commitment to solidarity and peace.
Ambassador Fiqi engaged in productive discussions with his counterparts from various member states, exploring avenues to enhance bilateral relations and foster unity among Islamic nations. These dialogues are pivotal in strengthening the collective voice and cooperation within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Furthermore, the assembly provided a platform for the exchange of perspectives on the latest global and regional developments, underscoring the importance of international collaboration in an ever-evolving geopolitical landscape.
The upcoming 15th Islamic Summit in Gambia, themed ‘Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development, promises to be a landmark event, with leaders from across the Islamic world converging to deliberate on a wide array of issues, including youth empowerment, women’s rights, Islamophobia, climate change, and the welfare of minorities.
As Somalia takes its place on this international stage, the contributions of Ambassador Fiqi and the Somali delegation are anticipated to play a crucial role in shaping the outcomes of the summit and advancing the interests of the Somali people.
