MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalaan Abdi Ali, has met with Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia and head of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu, centered on reinforcing the strong partnership between Somalia and the African Union.
The discussions focused on the African Union’s vital role in supporting Somalia’s security and counter-terrorism efforts. Minister Abdisalaan expressed his appreciation for the visible support provided by the African Union, especially through the AUSSOM mission, which has been instrumental in stabilizing the country. He urged the AU to strengthen its efforts further to ensure continued stability and security across Somalia.
Ambassador Diene, in return, thanked the Minister for the warm reception and reaffirmed the African Union’s unwavering commitment to supporting Somalia. He reiterated the AU’s dedication to strengthening its multifaceted cooperation with the Somali government and people. The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, August 7, 2025, served to deepen the collaborative ties between the two entities as they work together towards a more secure and stable future for Somalia.
